A good engineer should have a fundamental knowledge in fields of heating and electric engineering, material and mechanical science, operate and maintain any types of locomotive. The main goal of the program is to train engineers for the design, operation and maintenance of autonomous locomotives (diesel locomotives, gas-turbine locomotives) of railways. In the training program, much attention is paid to the study of locomotive power plants – diesel, gas turbine engines; the use of energy storage and fuel cells on rolling stock. In addition, the study of electric machines and electrical equipment, locomotive control systems; the crew part of the rolling stock, technical and technological solutions at enterprises that operate, maintain and repair rolling stock.

The purpose of the program is to train industrial engineers. In the process of training it is formed an universal specialist who is able to solve the most hardest production and economic problems.
