The history of this education institution dates back to 1951 when All-Union Correspondence Institute of Railway Engineering was established. In 1995 the Institute received University status and a new name – Russian State Open Technical University of Railway Engineering. In 2007 the University was transformed into Russian Open Transport Academy and incorporated into MIIT as its structural unit. Today ROAT is an academic and research complex of continuous education encompassing all stages of specialist training from preparatory division to Doctorate study programs. The Academy trains highly skilled personnel for railway transport, transport construction and other sectors of national economy.
