Vladimir N.Glazkov was born in 1957 in the city of Maikop. He graduated from Moscow Institute of Railway Engineering (MIIT) in 1979 with distinction and received a qualification of system engineer. He then worked in “Platan” research institute in Fryazino, Moscow region, as an engineer. In 1981-1992 he worked full-time as a Komsomol organizer.

Since 1994 he has been working in the education sector of railway transport.

In 2000 upon completion of post-graduate studies program he defended his thesis of Candidate of Science in Moscow Institute of Railway Engineering (MIIT).

In 2001 V.Glazkov got a degree of Assistant professor.

Since 2012 he has worked as a Pro-rector of Moscow Institute of Railway Engineering for international relations. During his tenure as Pro-rector, deputy director of Russian Academy of Railway Engineering of MIIT for international relations numerous contacts with foreign partners in Western Europe, Canada and the US have been established with a view to organizing and carrying out abroad training programs and seminars for Russian railway executives and experts.

Among foreign partners are institutes of higher education and foreign railway companies. Training programs and seminars are held in order to study hands-on experience of foreign railways in various fields of railway engineering, technology, economics and management in the context of market economy.

Since 1994 over 5,000 executives and experts of Russian Ministry of Railway Transport and Russian Railways have undergone training in Spain, Germany, France, Great Britain, Sweden, Finland, US and Canada.

Vladimir Glazkov has taken active part in carrying out several international projects of the European Union, World Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Vladimir Glazkov is participating in developing and carrying out joint academic programs with foreign universities and companies as well as academic mobility programs.

Since 2000 he has been actively involved in establishing and developing new specialization in the University: “Social and Cultural Service and Tourism”, and headed the chair “Service and Tourism” in 2000-2012.

Vladimir Glazkov is doing research as well. He participated in writing four monographs, eight study guides, more than 90 scientific papers. He was a scientific supervisor of commercial research performed for Ministry of Railway Transport of the Russian Federation and the Russian Railways in the field of “Marketing studies of passenger service quality and provision of tourist services on railways in the context of structural reform”. He takes part in international, all-Russian and industry-wide conferences.

Scope of scientific interests: Railway tourism and passenger service on railways, training and professional development of railway companies’ employees abroad.

Vladimir Glazkov was on numerous occasions honorably mentioned and awarded certificates of merit and valuable gifts. He is awarded with the “Distinguished Figure of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation” breastplate and the “In memory of Moscow’s 850th anniversary” medal, Ministry of Railway Transport and Central Trade Union Committee Certificate of Merit, Inscribed watch from Russian Railways president, and “100 years of Russian Trade Unions” medal.
